A Little Info About FITS Certified

The FITS Certified team is recognized by The National Institute of Certified Floor-Covering Inspectors (NICFI) as a flooring inspectors training school. Currently we are also recognized by Mohawk and Beaulieu and our new curriculum is still under review by Shaw Industries.

Flooring Inspection Training Services (FITS inc.) came into being in late 2002, through the efforts and dedication of Tim Smith, founder of FCITS, and Tandy Reeves. Its initial goal was to train inspectors in Indoor Air Quality Testing. It soon developed into comprehensive training for the flooring inspector and floorcovering installer.

Tandy and Tim brought their considerable talents and experience in the floor covering industry together and classes officially began in September, 2004. Instruction focused on carpet, hard surface, wood, and stained & polished concrete classes.

Sadly, on November 15, 2005, co-founder Tim Smith died suddenly and an important asset to the floor covering industry was lost. Tandy Reeves continued to offer the training, support and dedication to the industry that he and his partner had worked so hard for. In early 2008, two new principal members have joined the FITS team: Deron Lopez and Chris Mha.

S. Deron Lopez

Deron is a second generation carpet man. His father introduced him to the flooring business in 1975, including carpet cleaning and repairs, installations and inspections. He established Breeze Carpet Cleaning, a Bane-Clene certified professional carpet cleaning company in 1991. He holds FITS certifications in: Commercial Carpet, Residential Carpet, Hard Surface, Edge Flooring, Wood flooring, Moisture testing, Polished and Stained Concrete. He also holds FCITS certifications in residential and commercial carpet, IICRC in carpet repair and re-installation, Pro’s Choice odor control and stain removal, and is a certified Bane-Clene owner/operator, a member of the Professional Cleaners’ Association, and a concrete counter top fabricator of Cheng Concrete Exchange. Deron is President of FITS inc.

Chris Mha

Chris is also a second generation flooring installer. Starting in 1978 with his father as a resilient installer, Chris quickly moved into other aspects of flooring. This includes installation experience in vinyl, vinyl composition tile, wood flooring, laminate flooring, carpet, cork and rubber flooring. Chris has always taken pride in his quality workmanship, appearance integrity and professionalism. Chris holds FITS certifications in Polished and Stained Concrete, Moisture Testing, Commercial Carpet, Wood flooring and Commercial carpet and Carpet and Hard Surface Instructor and Edge Flooring. He also holds FCITS certifications in Residential Carpet and Hard Surface. Chris is also a Mannington Certified Resilient installer. Chris is dedicated to continuing education and providing quality education in the inspection and installation field. Chris Mha is the Executive Vice President of FITS inc.

M.T. (Tandy) Reeves

Tandy continues, in semi-retirement, as the Chief Executive Officer of FITS inc. and provides his experience, guidance and dedication to the betterment of the flooring industry to all the members of FITS Certified. You can also find the FITS Team of professionals at The Floor Pro Community, where they have the FITS Forum for its members and also offer advice and guidance to other professionals and consumers about a wide range of flooring issues.
